HEALTHCARE AS A HUMAN RIGHT : UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD HEALTH DAY

THEME 2024 : MY HEALTH, MY RIGHT

Healthcare is internationally recognized as an essential human right, according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well being of himself and his family regardless of income, race, colour or immigration status.

April 7th of each year marks the celebration of World Health Day. Being established at the first health assembly in 1948 and taking effect in 1950, this occasion intends to spread awareness of a specific health theme to highlight a priority area of concern for the World Health Organization.

A theme is set each year for the World Health Day regarding health concern and importance of health. In general the activities are organized to indicate the importance of health, which encourage people to change their unhealthy lifestyles.

The history of World Health Day goes back to 1948 as the World Health Organization felt the need to involve leading physicians from all over the world to make important decisions related to various health matters.

Concerns regarding health is not only limited to World Health Day or World Health Organization but we also know that it is an important part of our National Human Right. As mentioned in our Constitution of India, healthcare comes under our Fundamental Rights. Promoting and protecting health and respecting, protecting and fulfilling human rights are inextricably linked, and every country in the world is now party to atleast one human rights treaty that addresses health-related rights and the conditions necessary for health . The Constitution of World Health Organization also recognizes health as a basic human right before its organizational goals and motives. It states that “the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, poltical belief, economic or social condition”. With numerous nation states endorsing the right to health as part of their constitution, they are legally obliged to safeguard access to quality health in a “timely, acceptable and affordable” manner, whilst ensuring provision for the determinants of health.

When we dig into the importance of health “Quality” matters in abundance. Quality requires that health services must be scientifically and medically appropriate and of the most hygienic and highest quality. Underpinning the quality of rehabilitation services is evidence based practice, which generally differs from those of private working health centres or hospitals.

Keeping health care as a priority and talking about quality why not explore one of the best hospitals of our city! Going through one of the best super speciality hospitals, we can not skip mentioning  “RAJESHWAR HOSPITAL” located in Kankarbagh, Patna. Established in 2000, the hospital consists of experienced team of specialists and superspecialists providing comprehensive diagnosis with latest technological treatments. Rajeshwar Hospital unlike others proves to be a reliable and trustworthy center of care providing multiple services keeping your comfort and trust as their first priority.

“HEALTH AND TIME ARE TWO PRECIOUS ASSETS THAT WE DON’T RECOGNIZE AND APPRECIATE UNTIL THEY HAVE DEPLETED” lets try to work on this proverb more significantly this year because our health is our priority not an afterthought.
